Overview

Leads, directs, manages, plans, and administers the operational and administrative activities of a department or product segment.

Responsibilities

  1. Ultimately responsible for product or initiative delivery, which includes quality, efficiency and timeliness of work being done
    1. Relies on Product Owner to own the product backlog and the value of each product release
    2. Relies on Scrum Master for team collaboration, efficiencies, team-level metrics, SDLC process adherence, and team coaching
  2. Understands and supports the product owner, scrum master and development team member roles & responsibilities
  3. Ensures effective communication of initiative / product status, working with Product Owner and Team to address stakeholder issues / concerns
  4. Models and promotes expectations of high performing teams and the behavior puzzle
  5. Actively participates as a member of the NDS IT Leadership team
  6. Models NDS Leadership principles and Nelnet Core Values
  7. Champions and models Agile principles
  8. Hires qualified and high-performing team members
  9. Demonstrates ability to lead and coach all members of an agile team (dev team, scrum master, product owner, or other roles as applicable)
  10. Coaches team and team members as necessary when bahavior is below the line
  11. Responsible for career growth and development of team members through career coaching, 1-1’s, 4x4s and performance evaluation
  12. Responsible for performance management of under-performing team members
  13. Provides assessment and recommendation of team or individual’s PBIP, salary adjustments, and spot bonuses
  14. Understands the technology stack and high-level technical design of the solutions supported by the teams and looks ahead at future technology considerations
  15. Comprehends the testing methodologies employed by their teams to ensure quality 
  16. Participates as a technical stakeholder representing technical debt and initiatives for backlog prioritization
  17. Ensures the team is adhering to defined processes and standards.  Works with the team and Program Office to identify improvements and recommendations for process changes
  18. Provides encouragement, recognition and support to the team
  19. Maximizes team productivity and effective utilization of team’s skillsets
  20. Actively engages with the team and in ceremonies as necessary to support solution delivery and high team performance
  21. Promotes teamwork and collaboration
  22. Works with the team to identify, implement and track team’s goals to support segment objectives
  23. Interfaces and consults across the organization (i.e. security, audit, operations, infrastructure, etc..) to coordinate delivery activities
  24. Establishes and maintains business partner and vendor relationships as needed
  25. Responsible for planning, budgeting, and forecasting of team members and operating expenses

Qualifications

EDUCATION:

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or commensurate experience.

 

EXPERIENCE:

  1. Minimum of 3 years of experience in the software development industry preferred
  2. Minimum of 3 years of experience as a technical or development leader with a demonstrated ability of successful team leadership preferred
  3. Demonstrated technical experience in either product area or technical domain in order to promote best practices.
  4. Experience in working in a collaborative, team-based development environment.
