Overview

As a Drop Construction Technician, your primary responsibility will be to correctly, safely, and efficiently place underground fiber optic cable drops and conduit and preform general maintenance. This will require that you manage your own daily work and schedule within certain parameters, and that you are committed to the high quality and accuracy of your work.

Responsibilities

  1. Select routes and place/bury drops for residential fiber plant.
  2. Operate equipment needed to install buried drops.
  3. Yard and landscaping restoration.
  4. Perform general and emergency maintenance on buried fiber plant.
  5. Select materials for use in construction of fiber distribution system.
  6. Secure necessary locates through 1-call system before work is initiated.
  7. Document the construction of fiber plant and provide daily and weekly production reports to the Supervisor.
  8. Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
  9. Provide a safe work environment by being knowledgeable of and enforcing all state, local, federal safety regulations and company safety policies.
  10. Operate and monitor company-owned vehicle and equipment by inspecting condition daily and maintaining a valid driver’s license.
  11. Restoration work - duties as assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATION:

High school diploma or equivalent.

 

EXPERIENCE:

1 year of fiber construction experience

 

COMPETENCIES – SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES:

  1. Thorough knowledge of ALLO construction procedures.
  2. Thorough knowledge of fiber construction and material.
  3. Basic knowledge of Excel, Microsoft Word and GIS/CAD.
  4. Skills to effectively communicate with internal and external customers, contractors and company employees.
  5. Good mathematical skills.
  6. Strong organizational skills.
  7. Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
  8. Ability to operate a company vehicle and maintain a valid driver’s license.
  9. Ability to work evenings and weekends.
