The Business Development Specialist is responsible for identifying revenue opportunities, selling to prospective businesses and partners and executing on outbound calling campaigns. Outbound activity will be focused on consulting existing software partner users on payment solutions, as well as researching, identifying and contacting new merchant clients. The primary role is to conduct targeted outbound calling to new merchant clients, and will include the development of presentations, delivery of product demonstrations, attendance of conferences, price and contract negotiations.


The targeted market for this position will focus on the Midwest Territory.


  1. Select and engage organizations that have the greatest likelihood of revenue generation.
  2. Conduct market research, creating call targets, and prospect by telephone and email.
  3. Develop and deliver sales presentations and proposals to targeted business prospects.
  4. Identify new partner opportunities.
  5. Serve as a relationship liaison with existing partner relationships.
  6. Engage, nurture and qualify marketing responses and outbound telesales initiatives.
  7. Maintain a current understanding of solution suite and marketplace trends and terminology.
  8. Consistently achieve monthly and quarterly performance goals.



This position requires a minimum of a 4-year undergraduate degree, or equivalent, preferably in business or technology.



  1. 3-5 years professional experience in inside sales and/or sales
  2. Experience interacting with individuals at all levels of an organization.
  3. Experience in related technology, ecommerce or payment processing industry.

  3. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  4. Self-motivated in order to achieve daily call volumes, as well as monthly and quarterly performance metrics.
  5. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and sales tracking systems (e.g. Microsoft CRM, Salesforce, etc.), as well as the capacity to effectively and efficiently learn about various software solutions.
  6. Ability to effectively communicate the value proposition of various software solutions to current and prospective clients.
  7. Aptitude to learn new markets and solution suites.
  8. Familiarity with research tools, networking sites and advanced internet search techniques.
  9. Strong problem solving and decision-making skills.
  10. Skilled communicator with exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  11. Professional demeanor.
  12. Excellent organization, prioritization and analytical skills.
  13. Ability to work in a team environment.
  14. Self-confident with high energy and a “Can Do” attitude.
  15. Responsive with good follow-through.
  16. Willingness to adopt and promote Nelnet policies and best practices and comply with standard operating procedures.
  17. Good time management with the ability to meet performance guidelines.
