  • Overview

    The Risk Data and Reporting Analyst will support the expectations, requirements and procedures necessary to carryout operational risk activities helping to protect Nelnet and our customers. Focus areas will include business continuity, third party service providers (vendor), information governance, operational risks and other risk/compliance considerations as appropriate.  Additionally, the position will be responsible for collection, review, analysis, and presentation of data and relevant risk information.


    1. Intake requests for data, analysis, or reports, gate keep and manage expectations among ad hoc and standard work;
    2. Collect and consolidate data from all lines of business for analysis.
    3. Develop reports and metrics for optimal presentation of Operational and Compliance Risks;
    4. Develop models and analytic methodologies to fulfill requests and information needs;
    5. Assess current metrics inventories and identify information gaps;
    6. Propose and develop forecasting and trend analyses to address identified information gaps;
    7. Drive, adopt and enforce best practices in templates and tools;
    8. Ensure key trends, issues, watch items are brought forward into Management summaries clearly and articulately;
    9. Support and promote the operational risk program across the company, acting as an advisor to business-line management and the business units;
    10. Interact professionally and collegially with team members and the business to foster the effectiveness of the Operational Risk Management team;
    11. Assist with development of analytical tools and reports to monitor and track operational and regulatory compliance risks;
    12. Monitor business-line key risk and control indicators to identify and control operational & regulatory compliance risks;
    13. Develop operational risk management procedures and processes that support the program and methodology.




    1. Bachelor Degree in relevant field or equivalent experience and education.




    1. Minimum 2-3 years of experience in business metrics analysis, modeling, and reporting
    2. Proven experience in an analytical or research position or related experience
    3. Experience in business process analysis, documenting gaps and process standardizations
    4. Experience in the design, development, compilation, analysis, generation of and distribution of business reports
    5. Experience in banking/finance consumer protection regulations a plus.




    1. Ability to effectively analyze operational processes and procedures, data and other business documents that may indicate a potential risk issue;
    2. Excellent attention to detail and quality assurance;
    3. Strong analytical skills; ability to identify critical elements in data sets and to be able to develop a story narrative using data;
    4. High level of comfort working with incomplete or imperfect data sets, both quantitative and qualitative;
    5. Ability to assimilate large amounts of data from multiple sources, and create meaningful, clear output
    6. Highly effective time management and organizational skills; function effectively in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities;
    7. Ability to make decisions independently and work well as part of a team;
    8. Expert level skills and experience using Microsoft Excel including macros and VBA;
    9. Experience with data management and analysis tools such as Access/SQL;
    10. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; able to accurately represent facts, offer solutions, identify concerns, resolve issues and support decisions;
    11. Strong interpersonal, collaboration and teamwork skills required; able to work with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds, maintain cordial and effective relationships with coworkers, and effectively engage with other business contacts.
