    Interns work as functioning members of Nelnet’s marketing team, which operates similarly to an in-house advertising agency. Our interns gain an understanding of how a marketing department functions at a large, publically-traded company.

     

    The intern program consists of 12 or more weeks of hands-on work experience and education within an open, collaborative environment. Our flexible hours allow interns to receive the benefits of a dynamic internship program while still meeting their university or college requirements. Interns will become familiar with a multitude of brands under the Nelnet name while gaining insight about the processes and structure of a large holding company.

     

    The copywriter and social media intern will provide writing, editing, proofreading, and social media support for several Nelnet businesses. This person must be able to work 20 hours a week.

    Responsibilities

    1. Learn about Nelnet’s businesses, product/services, and markets
    2. Attend team meetings and concepting sessions as determined appropriate by supervisor
    3. Proof/review work for grammatical, technical, and visual accuracy as well as overall brand consistency
    4. Provide copywriting and editing support for various corporate and creative projects
    5. Check concepts and copy against the creative brief to ensure they meet strategic goals and objectives
    6. Work in tandem with other interns and team members who may share responsibility on specific projects
    7. Assist other writers in compiling information, secondary research, and/or other data for various projects and campaigns
    8. Research, curate, and create content for social media channels
    9. Pull and analyze monthly social media reporting metrics for multiple clients
    10. Assist in managing third-party social media platforms
    11. Other duties or special projects as assigned by supervisor

    Qualifications

    EDUCATION:

    Must be a junior or senior with minimum one to two years in a marketing or advertising field of study or equivalent experience. Must have experience writing and managing social media accounts.

     

    COMPETENCIES – SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES:

    1. Knowledge of AP Style
    2. Must have writing experience (e.g., prior internships or classes)
    3. Experience managing and writing for social media accounts preferred
    4. Detail-oriented
    5. Strong team-building skills
    6. Organized
    7. Able to multi-task and deliver projects on time
    8. Quick to learn and work independently
    9. Ability to follow directions
    10. Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word)
    11. Online and offline research skills
