  • Overview

    As a Senior Network Engineer (Voice Emphasis) you will be a key part of the team for creating and maintaining the Allo Fiber access networks. Your responsibilities will include low-level network design, access-network capacity planning, platform management and maintenance, as well as serving as an escalation point for significant network events. You will have demonstrated skills in the design and operation of fixed-broadband access networks. Your skills will also be called on by the network test teams who will ask you to review their test plans prior to release. You will act as an escalation point for high severity network issues, combining excellent troubleshooting, communication, and network management skills, to expedite problem resolution and act as a key point of contact between internal groups, vendors, and network peers. You will learn quickly and adapt to changes. You will maintain a high sense of urgency while staying cool under pressure.


    1. Commission new voice core and access network equipment.
    2. Manage network capacity in cooperation with the Network Operations Center (NOC). Handle escalated trouble calls and work closely with the NOC, engineering, field technicians, and telecommunications carriers to resolve service issues.
    3. Act as an externally facing point of contact to facilitate handling of problem reports and maintain relations with network peers and vendors. Act as an internally facing point of contact to escalate technical issues and communicate network status.
    4. Oversee and execute planned network maintenance work, minimizing impact to services.
    5. Support occasional on-call duties for NOC escalation.



    BA/BS degree in EE/CS/CE or equivalent practical experience.



    1. 8-10 years of experience in an Internet service provider using fixed-broadband access technologies.
    2. Metaswitch desired– Metaview, Call Feature Server, EAS, Session Border Controller
    3. Engineering/operating a voice switch on virtualized environment – Cisco UCS
    4. Deep knowledge of SIP
    5. TCP/IP knowledge and understanding of Data/IP networks required
    6. Translations experience desired
    7. ISUP experience desired
    8. Interconnection experience a plus



    1. Industry Certifications desired: MEF, Cisco, MPLS, VoIP, Video
    2. Strong leadership/administrative skills (multitasking, planning, and organizing) a plus
    3. LAN/WAN networking experience
    4. Ethernet Circuit Knowledge
    5. Advanced computer skills
    6. Strong verbal and written communication skills
    7. Strong interpersonal skills
    8. Strong knowledge of scripting languages
    9. Good troubleshooting skills and methodologies
    10. Experienced in analyzing issues, distilling and communicating their relevant aspects
    11. Ability to identify risks/issues and develop recommendations for resolution
    12. Shift work and on-call flexibility
    13. Attention to detail
