  • Overview

    Performs internal audit procedures to assist in the independent assessment of internal controls implemented by management to mitigate risks to the organization associated with the use of information systems and technology.  Provides input on planning, coordination, and performance of internal and external audit engagements in support of completion of the annual audit plan.  Works under supervision of the IT Audit Director and Senior IS Auditor with a commensurate degree of creativity and latitude allowed in completing job functions.

     

    This position is located in our Lincoln, Nebraska office.

    This position requires work in support of the Company’s contract with the United States Department of Education (“ED”).  As such, the United States Government requires that any applicant for this position must complete United States Government security clearance.  Effective June 1, 2018, ED has informed Nelnet that security clearance applications for foreign nationals are not being accepted or processed.  In light of this direction from ED, Nelnet will be unable to hire applicants without United States citizenship for such positions. 

    Responsibilities

    1. Perform procedures in support of audits of systems, technologies and processes designed to assess effectiveness of internal controls.
    2. Assist with development of information systems audit programs, testing procedures, and audit reports.
    3. Complete audit program steps utilizing internal control and risk management frameworks and components that assess operational and information technology activities.
    4. Utilize audit software to document procedures performed and maintain supporting audit evidence to ensure compliance with Audit Services division standards.
    5. Identify and research suggested improvements to areas being audited in order to help reduce risk and/or maintain compliance with regulatory standards.
    6. Assist in follow-up audit procedures to ensure accurate and timely implementation of agreed upon remediation actions.
    7. Assist in performing the appropriate audit work and providing the required documentation for the public accounting firm in association with the annual SSAE-18, SOX, FDIC, and other compliance audits.
    8. Establish and maintain working relationships with members of functional management.
    9. Demonstrate a commitment to teamwork and exhibit a positive professional image.
    10. Assist with development of draft audit reports presenting results of audit procedures and any associated audit findings, as well as recommendation for remediation actions.

    Qualifications

    EDUCATION:

    Four year college degree in Information Systems, Accounting, or similar technology-related field required.  Existing certification or willingness to obtain professional certification (CIA, CISA, CISM, CISSP) desired.

     

    EXPERIENCE:

    One to two years of experience working in a professional environment.  Experience in Audit, Technology, or Accounting desired.  Experience in public accounting strongly preferred.
