  • Overview

    This position plays a key role in Nelnet Inc.’s (NNI’s) compliance management system by analyzing internal controls and compliance with various types of regulations, contracts, policies, and procedures. The end result of the Staff Auditor’s efforts provide assurances to its customers related to the adequacy of NNI’s control environment and maintenance of its reputation as a leader in the financial services technology industry.

    Responsibilities

    1. Conducts internal audit assignments in accordance with established professional standards and Audit Services policies and procedures:
      1. Obtaining an understanding of business processes
      2. Identifying business process objectives and controls
      3. Developing test procedures based on information gathered
      4. Analyzing and evaluating process documentation, records and transactions for evidence of controls, compliance, and potential process improvements
      5. Identifying the root cause of issues and suggesting possible solutions
      6. Completing workpapers to document the results of testing and submitting workpapers for review
      7. Communicating the results of testing to operational and Audit Services Management
      8. Contributes to team effort by completing tasks as assigned
      9. Communicates status of projects to Audit Services Management
      10. Completes follow-up procedures to facilitate timely execution of management’s remediation plans
    2. Builds effective working relationships with other areas of the business.
    3. Responds to internal requests for support or assistance in a prompt and professional manner.
    4. Provides assistance to external auditors, as needed.
    5. Demonstrates the highest level of corporate and professional ethics, complying with corporate and departmental policies and procedures at all times.
    6. Engages in activities to continuously develop knowledge of NNI’s business strategies, requirements and processes.
    7. Acquires and maintains professional competency through appropriate participation in professional organizations, continuing education, and other learning opportunities. Obtains the required number of continuing education credits to maintain certifications when applicable.
    8. Performs other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    EDUCATION, LICENSE and CERTIFICATION:

    1. Knowledge equivalent to an Associate’s degree or Bachelor’s degree, preferably in accounting, finance, MIS or similar business-related field is required
    2. Interest in obtaining a related professional license/certification (e.g., CPA, CIA) or progress toward certification

     

    EXPERIENCE:

    Zero to two years of  experience with accounting, audit, process improvement, compliance and/or quality assurance
